Course Description
The AOTA Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines for Adults With Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD) provides an evidence-based perspective in defining the process and nature, frequency, and duration of the interventions that occur within the boundaries of this serious illness. This new CEonCD™ course takes a further step on the topic to enhance the practice of occupational therapy practitioners and their impact on the lives of adults with ADRD and their care partners. The Practice Guidelines principlesare presented in a multimedia format highlighting concepts for occupational therapy practice and case studies of adults at different stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The course includes lectures, interactive knowledge check activities, and valuable resources.

Recommended Reading: The Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines for Adults With Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders is recommended reading in order to fully benefit from the content and successfully complete the CEonCD™ exam. Learners will be directed to pages in the guidelines for some course exercises.

Presenter Bio
Patricia Schaber, PhD, OTR/Lis the occupational therapy research coordinator in the Memory Clinic at the University of Minnesota Medical Center-Fairview, the clinical arm of the N. Bud Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care. She is an associate professor in the Program in Occupational Therapy at the University of Minnesota. She holds a doctorate in Family Social Science and a doctoral minor in Gerontology with a focus in gerontological research. She was employed for thirteen years in geriatric occupational therapy in long-term care, home health care, and activities programming. She authored the Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines for Adults with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, and a chapter on dementia in Occupational Therapy in Mental Health: A Vision for Participation. Schaber’s research addresses the investigation of occupational therapy cognitive functional assessment and family-centered care intervention for older adults with early cognitive decline. She completed the MAGEC Educational Geriatric Fellowship and presently serves on the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council for the Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
