Our understanding of occupational recovery following stroke has been advanced by new interventions that combine cognitive and affective strategies with motor strategies. This Self-Paced Clinical Course for advanced-level students and practitioners provides current information on recovery in five areas—physiological, sensory, motor, cognitive, and emotional. The course is designed to encourage practitioners to think creatively and systematically about combination strategies that work to address all areas of recovery in effective and efficient ways.

Section I presents the core material necessary to work with adults with stroke. Each chapter discusses a facet of stroke rehabilitation and provides fundamental knowledge necessary for working with this population.

Section II describes the recovery process in clinical settings where post-stroke rehabilitation takes place. This section applies the knowledge from section I to clients with complex, multifaceted occupational histories, impairments, skills, and abilities.

The course text includes: Points to Ponder, a glossary, and three case studies in which hypothetical clients are followed through the various stages of intervention and placement.
