Overview:
This webinar will examine strategies and resources that are can be used to support students with learning disabilities achieve proficiency with the Common Core State Standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. We will examine a range of free and for fee digital resources, as well as low tech/no tech supports that provide access to a standards based curriculum for students who struggle with traditional pencil and paper tasks. This session will dig deep into the language of the indicators to examine the expectations for students and how to utilize accessible instructional materials that meet student needs.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify language of the Common Core State Standards that supports students with disabilities in accessing curriculum.
2. Participants will be able to identify barriers that students with learning disabilities typically encounter when accessing traditional pencil and paper based learning tasks.
3. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 resources or strategies that support access to the Mathematics Standards.
4. Participants will be able to identify at least 3 resources or strategies that support access to the English/Language Arts Standards
Speaker Bio:
Beth Poss is currently a special education administrator for Montogmery County Public Schools. As a member of the MCPS curriculum writing team, she helped design and implement a curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the principles of Universal Design for Learning. She also spent 10 years as a member of the MCPS Assistive Technology Team, has taught for Johns Hopkins University, Towson State University and The George Washington University. She presents nationally on best practices in Professional Development, Assistive Technology, Instructional Technology and Universal Design for Learning.
