Overview:

The iPad was released over three years ago and has had a profound influence on the lives of persons with disabilities. This webinar will discuss and demonstrate over 50 new iPAD accessories and adaptations for individuals who experience vision, hearing, communication and physical disabilities. Explore new switch interfaces options; wireless accessories versus Bluetooth accessories; creative adaptations for wearing and transporting the iPAD for individuals who experience physical disabilities. Learn about how to use the iPAD as a remote control solution for toys, lighting, and appliances. See what is new in accessories for remote monitoring of individuals as well as improving health and well being.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to describe 10 different accessories for individuals who experience vision or hearing impairments.

2. Participants will be able to describe at least 20 different accessories for individuals who experience physical impairments.

3. Participants will be able to describe at least 20 different adaptations that they can make for the iPAD.

 

Speaker Bio:

Therese Willkomm, PhD ATP is the Director of New Hampshire’s State Assistive Technology Program with the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire She is also clinical professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy and coordinator of the Graduate Certificate Program in Assistive Technology at UNH. Dr. Willkomm has over 25 years experience in providing/managing assistive technology services for all ages and all life functions at home, school, work, and play. She is known nationally and internationally as “The McGyver” of Assistive Technology. And more recently as an expert in iPAD Apps and Adaptations. Dr. Willkomm has presented over 500 assistive technology workshops in 38 states, seven foreign countries and three U.S. Territories; conducted 22 national assistive technology webinars; created over 600 assistive technology inventions; developed and posted over 350 “How-To” Assistive Technology YouTube clips; and authored 22 publications including her books titled: Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes.
