Overview:

Professionals working in assistive technology are utilizing social media to construct personalized learning networks. Tools, such as Twitter, have erupted as ways to gather resources, glean insights, and collaborate in a free, global, omni-present environment. In this step-by-step session, participants will learn the basics for navigating Twitter, one of the most popular social media sites. They will learn why and how to search Twitter for assistive technology resources as well as find AT professionals to connect with and learn from. Learn how to expand your personal professional learning network by participating in AT focused Twitter chats, as well as how to locate and curate AT resources posted on Twitter.

 

Learning Objectives:

1)  Participants will utilize Twitter to find information and resources in the field Assistive Technology.

2)  Participants will utilize Twitter to engage with other AT professionals.

3)  Participants will learn how to participate in AT focused Twitter chats.

 

Speaker Bio/s: 

Christopher R. Bugaj is a founding member the Assistive Technology Team for Loudoun County Public Schools. Chris is the co-author of The Practical (and Fun) Guide to Assistive Technology in Public Schools published by the International Society on Technology in Education. Chris hosts The A.T.TIPSCAST (http://attipscast.com); a multi-award winning podcast featuring strategies to differentiate learning. Chris is the author of ATEval2Go (http://bit.ly/ateval2go), an app for iPad that helps professionals perform consultations and evaluations. Chris also co-produces the popular Night Light Stories podcast (http://nightlightstories.net) which features original stories for children of all ages.

 

Beth Poss is currently a special education administrator for Montogmery County Public Schools. As a member of the MCPS curriculum writing team, she helped design and implement a curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards and the principles of Universal Design for Learning. She also spent 10 years as a member of the MCPS Assistive Technology Team, has taught for Johns Hopkins University, Towson State University and The George Washington University. She presents nationally on best practices in Professional Development, Assistive Technology, Instructional Technology and Universal Design for Learning.
