AOTA recognized Eleanor Clarke Slagle's influence by establishing its highest award in her honor in 1953. In 1969, Lela A. Llorens presented her Slagle Lecture, which discussed “a conceptual model for understanding the knowledge that presently supports the practice of occupational therapy . . . with a discussion of how and where occupational therapy fits into the scheme of human development.” A chapter providing historical context for the 1960s is also included.
