The therapeutic use of safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) techniques increases options for safe early mobility, improves safety and outcomes for patients, decreases the incidence of musculoskeletal injury among therapists, and provides a fail-safe for falls prevention. The proper incorporation of SPHM equipment and approaches can augment interventions by allowing OTs to simultaneously work on a variety of performance skills while safely mobilizing patients.
