Course Description:

This interactive online course covers the basics of osteo arthritis as it pertains to the hand and upper extremity including pathophysiology and biomechanics. In addition, a variety of intervention techniques such as orthotic fabrication, adaptive equipment considerations, taping and physical agent modalities are provided. The course discusses conservative and surgical treatment options for OA and includes protocols in the appendix.  The interactive book format contains text, video clips and photos, making this clinically relevant content easy to follow and understand.


Online exam must be passed with a score of 80% to receive AOTA certificate of completion.

 

Learning Objectives:

·  Identify the anatomy of the joint and pathology of OA

·  Describe the stages of OA and the clinical presentation of each stage

·  Discuss evaluation techniques specific to OA

·  Identify conservative treatment interventions available for OA in the upper extremity including, modalities, taping, therapeutic exercises, joint protection, topical agents, and orthotics.

·  Identify surgical interventions associated with OA in the upper extremity and expected outcomes following.
