Pediatric constraint induced movement therapy (PCIMT) is a complex intervention; this continuing education program will provide you with information necessary to help you get started completing a PCIMT program with your pediatric clients. This course defines PCIMT, provide an overview of the evidence that informs practice and describes assessments and components of documentation of service delivery.
Learning Objectives Course #2:
Following this presentation, the learner will
- Describe the process for the creation of a cast using the necessary supplies
- Identify key components of CIMT intervention including: intensity, dosage, shaping, repetitive practice task, and reinforcement
- Explain the necessity of engaging parents’ ongoing performance and show an understanding of therapy provided in the natural environment
This second course in the 2 course series covers the key components of PCIMT--the creation of the cast and the intervention process. This course contains a detailed description of the supplies needed and process for creation of the immobilization splint used on the non-involved extremity—a video demonstrating cast fabrication in included. In addition, this course covers the topics of dosage intensity, movement shaping, therapeutic environment and performance reinforcement.
