Course Description
Everyday Ethics, Fourth Edition provides basic information for occupational therapy students and practitioners to meet a variety of needs related to ethics education. This important CE course provides an overview of key ethical theories, the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, a Framework for Ethical Decision Making with case analysis and the role and function of agencies which regulate the occupational therapy profession. Imbedded learning activities and additional, relevant resources reinforce the application of this ethics information to daily practice for students, clinicians, educators, researchers, and those in other occupational-therapy-related roles. In addition, this course content can be used to meet continuing education ethics requirements for state licensure renewal, as well as to fulfill disciplinary sanctions by state licensure boards that include ethics courses. It is a goal of this continuing education course to reinforce the value of self-reflection on one’s practice, to promote not only enhanced competency but also more ethical behavior.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify key terminology, ethics theories and ethical principles that apply to everyday situations and diverse roles in occupational therapy
- Delineate and apply principles and related standards of conduct in the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics
- Identify steps in an ethical decision-making framework and apply them to clinical case examples
- Identify strategies to prevent or minimize ethical infractions
- Identify the three regulatory organizations that oversee the occupational therapy profession, their jurisdiction and complaint process including roles and functions of the AOTA Ethics Commission
- Identify and apply ethics resources to address ethical challenges
