This interactive course provides beginner to advanced practitioners with information about the anatomical structures affected by, the pathological processes involved, and the management of acute conditions including traumatic injuries, fractures, burns, and wounds, with goals including:

•Selection of prosthetics;
•Knowledge of rehabilitation of upper extremity fractures;
•Knowledge about the evaluation and treatment of burns of the upper extremity;
•Understanding the wound healing process; and
•Evaluation of wounds and wound care

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will:

1. Describe various medical and therapeutic interventions for the traumatic hand injury.
2. Identify various levels of upper extremity amputation and types of prosthetic devices for upper extremity amputations.
3. Describe interventions for those patients receiving a prosthetic device.
4. Name the types of fractures.
5. Describe the phases of fracture healing.
6. Describe the various types of burns.
7. Differentiate therapy interventions depending on type of burn and medical management (non-grafted burns, skin grafts and flaps).
8. Describe interventions for various fractures of the upper extremity.
9. Describe the phases of wound healing.
10. Discuss methods of assessing wounds and treating wounds.
