Series Description:
This 3-module series covers the basics of becoming a clinical fieldwork educator and also includes information on the roles and responsibilities of the clinical site coordinator and academic fieldwork coordinator positions. This series is intended for those interested in learning or enhancing fieldwork educator skills or starting a fieldwork program at their facility. A digital badge is available to participants who successfully complete the series as a means of sharing knowledge competencies with others.
Description:
This first module of the three part series includes a review of the purpose of fieldwork education, identification of the benefits of providing fieldwork education, and an overview of level one and level two fieldwork for both the OT and the OTA student. Topics also include what students learn on fieldwork, what students’ value in fieldwork educators as well as ACOTE standards they apply to fieldwork education. Learners will have an opportunity to assess readiness to become a fieldwork educator through use of various assessment tools contained within the course. Fieldwork program development and supervision models and formats associated with fieldwork are covered along with how to work with local educational programs, your administration and staff.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
• Describe the intent of fieldwork education to students and the benefits of providing fieldwork education to the occupational therapy practitioner
• Recognize the requirements in accreditation standards that relate to fieldwork
• Explain his or her readiness to become a fieldwork educator and create a professional development plan
• Identify the actions and activities needed to develop an operational fieldwork program
