Occupational therapy is at a crossroads—again?! Yes, we are! Whether crossroads, critical junctures, or “moments you can’t ignore,” all provide windows of opportunity for reconciliation, innovation, and transformation—ultimately, change. At times, we make change difficult. Change can be unsettling and emotional. Yet, change is not new…or personal. Transformation takes root in environments that embrace change and adapt to the realities; not in spaces that are limited by fear or resistant to change. Whether experiencing change in health care, school, or community practice arenas; academic environments; social systems; service delivery models; or payment methods, we cannot be limited by the finite rules to an infinite and ever changing game. While change is not personal, the individual and collective work required for our evolving profession’s transformation is personal indeed. Join AOTA President Wendy Hildenbrand as we grapple with change as the “only thing constant” in the complex 21st century world in which we serve to maximize health, well-being, and quality of life for all people, populations, and communities. We are Occupational Therapy! Are you with me?
