Course Description
This course is part of the Professional Certificate in School Based Practice requirements as part of the Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools Micro credential. The module explores the importance of social and leisure participation and their relationship to identity development and positive adult outcomes.
Social and leisure participation are areas of occupation particularly relevant to adolescents. Adolescents tend to spend increasingly more time with peers than caregivers. Leisure activities become a priority for many adolescents and these leisure pursuits are often closely related to identity development and social engagement. Evidence supports that social participation and leisure engagement are related to positive outcomes in adulthood. This module will review the importance of leisure engagement and social participation, and evaluation and intervention of leisure engagement and social participation.
