PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This webinar session will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the fieldwork team in preparing and developing traditional and emerging community-based experiences. Interactive learning strategies and examples of various site types will be used.

SPEAKERS

Jaynee Taguchi Meyer, OTD, OTR/L
Jaynee Taguchi Meyer is an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos, California.  She earned Doctor of Occupational Therapy and Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy degrees from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University. 

Meyer has 30 years experience in academia, including 22 years as an academic fieldwork coordinator.  She is a frequent conference presenter and published author on fieldwork topics including working with occupational therapy students with disabilities in fieldwork, creating and facilitating international Level I fieldwork experiences, and success and longevity in the academic fieldwork coordinator role. She has been a trainer for AOTA’s Fieldwork Educator Certificate Program since 2009 and is Co-Chair of the California Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Council.  

Meyer’s fieldwork roles prior to academia include Level I and II fieldwork educator, fieldwork site coordinator for a large urban acute care hospital, and clinical educational consultant overseeing occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech language pathology clinical experiences for a company contracting services to skilled nursing companies nationwide.   

Bethany Horne, OTD, MS, OTR/L 
Bethany Horne, OTD, MS, OTR/L is an Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and Assistant Professor for the entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate program at Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Providence, RI. She earned her Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from the New England Institute of Technology.  

Bethany has more than 17 years of clinical experience. Prior to joining JWU’s Occupational Therapy Program, Horne worked as a school-based practitioner, adjunct professor, and assistant academic fieldwork coordinator. 

Bethany is dedicated to supporting future occupational therapy practitioners in preparing for entry-level practice. She has supported both occupational therapy assistant students and occupational therapy students as a fieldwork educator. Bethany has mentored practitioners in achieving their goals to obtain post-professional doctorate degrees. She is the facilitator of the Fieldwork Educators Community of Practice, which has granted her numerous opportunities to collaborate nationally with fieldwork educators and academic fieldwork coordinators. 

Traci Kruse, OTD, MA, OTR/L (she/hers)
Traci Kruse has her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Science and her Master’s in Occupational Therapy from the College of St. Catherine, and her Post-Professional Doctorate from St. Catherine University. She is the Director of Experiential Learning and Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota. She has 15 years of clinical practice in home health, mental health, aging in place, and community emerging practice and more than six years of experience in higher education. Her scholarship activities include student perspectives in community emerging practice, developing community fieldwork settings, and understanding roles and experiences in experiential learning.  

Outside of her academic role, Kruse enjoys her occupations of being a parent to her two adult children, spending time with them and her spouse, walking with her boxer, Daisy Fay, reading, and crochet.
