This course provides an introduction and overview of the role of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in the emerging practice area of maternal health.
Major topic areas covered include preconception, prenatal, and postpartum phases experienced by women* during their childbearing years. Special topic discussions relate to maternal mortality, teen pregnancy and peri/post natal PTSD.

Following completion of the this course, the learner will be able to:

Identify occupational therapy's role in addressing the physical, emotional, and psychosocial issues surrounding maternal health

Compare and contrast the preconception period, prenatal period and postnatal period.

Describe strategies for intervention for each phase of maternal health.
This course is intended for both OT and OTA levels of the profession and is considered a beginner level course covering both domina and process of OT.
