Course Information:

This course is based on Chapter 40 of AOTA’s best-selling publication, Best Practices for Occupational Therapy in Schools. The course describes occupational therapy’s role in supporting social participation in schools.  You will learn about social and emotional programs, coaching, positive behavioral interventions and other frameworks that assist occupational therapy practitioners provide effective services. CE exam questions are provided to assess your learning.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the learner will:
1. Recognize how observation and evaluation support students’ social participation.
2. Identify evidence-based strategies that improve social and communication skills in children to enhance participation.
3. Articulate how the environment and context affect the development of social and communication skills and influence utilization of previously acquired skills.  
4. Determine an appropriate level of required support(s) when selecting intervention approaches or programs to promote social participation.
