Transportation and community mobility to support occupational engagement is based on the award-winning Lifestyle Redesign® program. This fourth unit of the six course series offers practical guidance for ensuring occupational participation of independent-living older adults.
Although not required, it is strongly recommended that participants have a copy of Lifestyle Redesign®: The Intervention Tested in the USC Well Elderly Studies, 2nd Edition available when viewing this course.
Description:
This course discusses community mobility issues such as driving, walking, and using public transportation. Practitioners will develop an understanding of the relationship between mobility and occupation, in addition to strategies and resources available to support community mobility in older adults. Key recommendations for incorporating home and community safety into OT interventions will also be discussed. Finally, practitioners receive an introduction to “health literacy” and learn about the skills needed to navigate the health care system during older adulthood.
