Series Description:
This 3-module series covers the basics of becoming a clinical fieldwork educator and also includes information on the roles and responsibilities of the clinical site coordinator and academic fieldwork coordinator positions. This series is intended for those interested in learning or enhancing fieldwork educator skills or starting a fieldwork program at their facility. A digital badge is available to participants who successfully complete the series as a means of sharing knowledge competencies with others.
Course Description:
This module reviews the purpose of fieldwork education, identifies the benefits of providing fieldwork education, and discusses the distinction between level one and level two fieldwork experiences for both OT and the OTA students. Educational requirements including introduction to ACOTE standards governing the fieldwork experience are also described. Tools for self-assessment of readiness for the role of fieldwork educator are included as well as information about starting a fieldwork education program.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
1) Describe the intent of fieldwork education to students and the benefits of providing fieldwork education to the occupational therapy practitioner
2) Recognize the requirements in accreditation standards that relate to fieldwork
3) Explain his or her readiness to become a fieldwork educator and create a professional development plan
4) Identify the actions and activities needed to develop an operational fieldwork program
