Welcome to the fourth module in A Mindful Path to Leadership Series: A Mindful Path to Advocacy.  This module supports the development of advocacy skills necessary to educate key stakeholders on the distinct value of occupational therapy in order to promote policies that advance occupational therapy practice.

Learning Objectives:

·       Discuss the connection between health care policy and occupational therapy practice

·       Explain advocacy at the practice, professional, and health systems levels.

·       Describe strategies one could use in everyday occupational therapy practice in order to advance the profession.

·       Identify key stakeholders in one’s personal practice and articulate how occupational therapy can help address those stakeholders’ biggest challenges.

·       Discuss the principles of therapeutic use of self in order to advocate effectively to key stakeholders.

·       Identify state and federal representatives and describe avenues to stay informed about policy and to advocate at the health-systems level.
