Course Description
AOTA is pleased to offer new and useful continuing education on the subject of postacute care to advance your practice in these settings. The course reviews the characteristics of occupation-based practice with a focus on postacute care practice settings for older adults. Practical strategies to promote the practitioner’s ability to integrate occupation throughout the occupational therapy process are presented in an interactive format to maximize clinical application, and real-life scenarios illustrate the occupation-based approach for facilitating productive aging.

The purpose of this course is to facilitate the provision of occupation-based interventions with clients in postacute care practice settings and to support the Centennial Vision goal for the profession of advancing productive aging in older adults. It is through this educational opportunity that occupational therapy practitioners can enhance the lives of their clients and allow them to live life to its fullest! 

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the characteristics of the occupation-based practice approach.
2. Identify the relationship between the occupation-based approach and client-centered care used in the occupational therapy process.
3. Identify the domain and process as outlined in the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and its relationship with the occupation-based approach.
4. Identify the connection between occupation-based practice and theoretical models relevant to postacute care practice settings.
5. Identify strategies to maximize the integration of occupation-based approaches in postacute practice settings. 
6. Apply the occupation-based approach to clinical practice scenarios.
7. Identify solutions to manage factors affecting the use of an occupation-based approach in postacute care practice settings.
