Overview:

Assistive Technology Bootcamp Part 2 is a fundamental overview which addresses various areas of assistive technology applications and processes that surround good implementation practices in a variety of environments. The AT Bootcamp is available in three sessions which will concentrate on three distinct areas of assistive technology application and processes. In part 2, topics to be discussed will include applications of Augmentative & Alternative Communication, Access, and Positioning & Mobile Technologies.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will gain an overview of areas of assistive technology applications and processes that surround good implementation practices on AAC, Access, Positioning and Mobile Technologies.

2. Participants will be exposed to an array of assistive technology tools in the topical areas addressed, that could meet the needs of persons with disabilitie

3. Participants will be encouraged to build their own personal learning networks through information resources shared throughout the presentation.

 

Speaker Bios:

Kirk Behnke is the Senior Education Specialist for Special Education, Region 4 ESC and is the Lead Facilitator for the Texas Assistive Technology Network (TATN). He holds a Master's of Education degree from Temple University and a certificate in Assistive Technology Applications from the University College Dublin, National University of Ireland. He has a credential as an Assistive Technology Professional from RESNA. Kirk developed the "Assistive Technology Applications Certificate Program (ATACP) for California State University, Northridge and has presented since 1989 at national AT and disability conferences throughout the US and overseas on assistive technology, accessible curriculum design, online design regarding AT, universal design and web 2.0 tools.

 

Mike Marotta is a RESNA Certified Assistive Technology Practitioner and Assistive Director for Outreach and Training for the Assistive Technology Services Department of Advancing Opportunities. Mike was a national trainer for California State University at Northridge (CSUN), providing practical and in-depth training to professionals interested in specializing in assistive technology through the Assistive Technology Applications Certificate Program (ATACP). Mike has provided an array of trainings, both nationally and internationally. Mike is also the Immediate Past President of NJCART (www.njcart.org). The New Jersey Coalition for the Advancement of Assistive and Rehabilitation Technology (NJCART) is a non-profit organization established in 1987 to promote the appropriate applications of technology for individuals with disabilities, assure access to resources and provide continuing education to its members and the community at large.
