 Description:

The use of preparatory methods and tasks for treating the hand and upper extremity can improve client factors and motor skills that ultimately lead to improved participation in occupations. This course provides ideas for novel preparatory tasks and methods that will encourage clients to participate in clinic and home based therapy programs. Preparatory tasks using everyday items, inexpensive toys, and homemade products, supplement the therapists’ tool box. The course is organized into two distinct sections (client factors and skills), and are further divided into corresponding subsections. This organization allows the therapist to learn about and select the appropriate preparatory task, method or device for the intended therapeutic purpose.
